Learning the ropes

I chose this project because I have always had a strong interest in music and how it is produced. I thought it would be really interesting to see it first hand, while also doing it myself. I like all sorts of types of music genres, so I thought it would be fun to try and make beats for as many of them as I can.  my first week of working on my project was spent mostly on trying to figure out how to use Garageband for beat making and watching videos to help me figure this out.

This project is a solo ordeal for me, so I can have complete control over what types of music I want to make beats for. this is also nice because I will be able to focus entirely on the project and not be distracted by having to communicate with a partner/partners.

three goals:

1. to master beat making on garage band

2. to be able to make beats for different genres of music

3. be able to make beats that are similar to those of a particular artist

I pulled this project together by talking to Judy Rose, my Music Commentary teacher, and getting her initial approval for the idea. after that, we had to decide what software I was going to use. we tried to see if the school would support the project financially by helping to pay for a professional music production software known as FL studio. after being unable to obtain this financial assistance, we decided to go with garage band, a free production software that I installed on my laptop.

these are some of the videos I checked out:

I have messed around with the settings and am now ready to try and make my first beat! the next step for me is to decide what genre of music to make my beat for. I will do this by looking at different artists and analysing the types of beats that they are using and trying to create one that is similar to it.
