This week I have mainly focused on refining the details of my beats, making sure they all sound how I want them to. this involved going back through all the beats I made and making sure everything was on beat and on tempo. I was able to do this in addition to making a Jazz beat that I think is pretty decent. Comment response: maurine- I have also listened to a lot of 50 cent, so that has also played a roll in my inspiration! Reflection: goals: 1. to master beat making on garage band 2. to be able to make beats for different genres of music 3. be able to make beats that are similar to those of a particular artist I had a lot of fun with this project, it helped me to learn about something I love on a deeper level. I was able to spend a lot of time both listening to and making music, both things I have come to enjoy even more over these past several weeks. I was also able to complete all of the goals that I set for myself! one thing I struggled with slightly was time management, but ...

This week, I made two more beats, an old school rap type beat, and an R&B type beat. I really enjoyed making the old school rap type beat. while I was making it, I was thinking of one of my favorite old school rap artists: Eazy-E. he was one of the first rappers to create what is known to some as "Gangsta Rap". he talks a lot about the violence that occurs in the streets of compton in his music, and about how it has effected his life.  a key to old school beats is the drumline, so I really focused on making sure that sounded the way I wanted. this was a challenge at first, but I listened to some of the old school rappers I know of and studied the different sounds that were included in their instrumentals. after doing this, I was able to produce a sound that I felt was similar to this style of instrumental. The other beat that I made was made for singing on, rather then rapping. This beat was harder for me to make and I dont think it was one of my best ones. the struggle ...

I've made several beats this week. I made an EDM (electronic dance music) type beat, a rock and roll type beat and a "trap" type beat. my favorite was surprisingly the rock and roll beat, because I found a guitar sound that I really liked and made a cool pattern with it. something new I learned about garage band was that it actually shows the music that you create in musical notation, as well as on the track. this was funny to me, because while I thought that was interesting, it offered little help to be because I have no clue how to read music.  three goals: 1. to master beat making on garage band 2. to be able to make beats for different genres of music 3. be able to make beats that are similar to those of a particular artist I have probably made the most progress towards goal #2, because I have made a variety of beats for varying genres of music. as far as goal one, I am working towards this, but there are still new functions that I have yet to try out in garage band ...

Learning the ropes

I chose this project because I have always had a strong interest in music and how it is produced. I thought it would be really interesting to see it first hand, while also doing it myself. I like all sorts of types of music genres, so I thought it would be fun to try and make beats for as many of them as I can.  my first week of working on my project was spent mostly on trying to figure out how to use Garageband for beat making and watching videos to help me figure this out. This project is a solo ordeal for me, so I can have complete control over what types of music I want to make beats for. this is also nice because I will be able to focus entirely on the project and not be distracted by having to communicate with a partner/partners.  three goals: 1. to master beat making on garage band 2. to be able to make beats for different genres of music 3. be able to make beats that are similar to those of a particular artist I pulled this project together by talking to Judy Rose, my ...
